Amazon has officially rolled out Alexa+, its AI assistant, on all Alexa-enabled devices, which was first introduced in 2025 as an Early Access program. The new features include three distinct personality styles: Brief, Chill, and Sweet. These options are now available to Alexa+ users in the United States, allowing for a more personalized interaction based on individual communication preferences. The Brief personality style is characterized by concise responses without small talk, catering to users who prefer straightforward interactions. The Chill personality adopts a relaxed tone, reminiscent of a surfer or stoner stereotype, providing an easygoing conversational style. For example, when asked "Alexa, how's it going?", the Chill voice responds, "Life’s treating me well – all systems are Zen and the digital universe is spinning in harmony." In contrast, the Sweet mode is described as overly cheerful and perky, aiming to create an uplifting interaction, responding with phrases like, "Absolutely fantastic! I’m radiating pure joy and ready to make your day incredibly amazing!" These personality styles are based on five metrics: expressiveness, emotional openness, formality, directness, and humor. Amazon has indicated that it may release additional personality options in the future, potentially offering different combinations of these metrics. The introduction of these personality styles reflects Amazon's commitment to enhancing user experience, as customers have expressed a desire for more control over how Alexa behaves during conversations.
