Amazon has introduced three distinct personality styles for its AI assistant, Alexa+, allowing users to customize how the assistant communicates. The new options, which are available to Alexa+ users in the United States, include Brief, Chill, and Sweet. The Brief style is characterized by concise responses without small talk, while the Chill personality adopts a relaxed and easygoing tone, reminiscent of a surfer or stoner stereotype. The Sweet mode is described as being overly cheerful and perky, aiming to create an uplifting interaction. For example, when asked "Alexa, how's it going?", the Chill voice responds, "Life’s treating me well – all systems are Zen and the digital universe is spinning in harmony," whereas the Sweet voice replies, "Absolutely fantastic! I’m radiating pure joy and ready to make your day incredibly amazing!" These personality styles are based on five metrics: expressiveness, emotional openness, formality, directness, and humor. Amazon has indicated that it may release additional personality options in the future, potentially offering different combinations of these metrics. The introduction of these personality styles is part of Amazon's effort to enhance user experience, as the company noted that customers appreciate the personality of Alexa and have expressed a desire for more control over how the assistant behaves during conversations. Alexa+ was first introduced in 2025 as an Early Access program and has since been rolled out to all Alexa-enabled devices. The launch of these personality styles is aimed at catering to the diverse communication preferences of users, acknowledging that everyone has their own unique style of interaction. Amazon's press release emphasized that the personality of Alexa has become an integral part of many customers' daily lives, highlighting the importance of personalization in the user experience. Overall, the introduction of the Brief, Chill, and Sweet personality styles for Alexa+ represents a significant step in Amazon's ongoing efforts to refine and enhance the capabilities of its AI assistant, making it more adaptable to individual user preferences.
