EA has laid off an undisclosed number of employees across the studios responsible for the Battlefield franchise, which includes Dice, Criterion, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios. This decision was part of a "realignment" within the Battlefield organization, aimed at better aligning teams around community priorities. An EA spokesperson confirmed the layoffs, stating, "we’ve made select changes within our Battlefield organization to better align our teams around what matters most to our community." Despite the layoffs, all involved studios will remain operational, and the layoffs will impact multiple offices. The layoffs come as a surprise to many, especially considering the recent success of Battlefield 6, which sold over seven million copies within the first three days of its release in October. EA described Battlefield 6 as the "best-selling shooter title of 2025" in its third quarter report for FY26, which also revealed the company's net revenue exceeding $1.9 billion. This record-breaking launch highlights the unexpected nature of the layoffs, as the teams behind Battlefield 6 were instrumental in achieving this milestone. Reports from IGN and The Verge indicate that the layoffs affected various teams that contributed to Battlefield 6, but neither source provided specific numbers regarding the employees impacted. EA's VP of Corporate Communications, Justin Higgs, reiterated the company's commitment to the Battlefield franchise, emphasizing that it remains one of EA's largest properties. The decision to realign teams suggests a strategic shift within the organization, despite the franchise's recent commercial success.
