In 2026, the nation will commemorate a century of Black history. This initiative was established by Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson, George Cleveland Hall, William B. Hartgrove, Jesse E. Moorland, Alexander L. Jackson, and James E. Stamps, who founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH) to institutionalize the teaching, study, dissemination, and commemoration of Black history.
