France confines 1,700 passengers on cruise ship after suspected gastroenteritis outbreak

French authorities have confined more than 1,700 passengers and crew aboard the British cruise ship Ambition, which is docked in Bordeaux, due to a suspected outbreak of gastroenteritis. The ship arrived in the southwestern French city on Tuesday, and health officials reported that approximately 50 passengers have shown symptoms consistent with the illness. Most of the 1,233 passengers are from Britain or Ireland, and there are also 514 Indian crew members on board.
