French authorities have confined more than 1,700 passengers and crew aboard the British cruise ship Ambition, which is docked in Bordeaux, due to a suspected outbreak of gastroenteritis. The ship arrived in the southwestern French city on Tuesday, and health officials reported that approximately 50 passengers have shown symptoms consistent with the illness. Most of the 1,233 passengers are from Britain or Ireland, and there are also 514 Indian crew members on board. The situation escalated following the death of a 90-year-old passenger, which prompted officials to take action. Despite the death, authorities have downplayed any potential links to a hantavirus scare, stating that there is no connection between the two incidents. The passengers have been prevented from disembarking while health assessments are conducted. Health officials are investigating the outbreak, which has resulted in 49 suspected cases of gastroenteritis among the passengers. The cruise ship is currently under strict health protocols as authorities work to contain the situation and ensure the safety of those on board. The confinement of passengers is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing further spread of the illness.
