President Donald Trump is set to begin the final interviews for candidates to become the chair of the Federal Reserve this week. This marks a resumption of the formal selection process that initially started during the summer. The first candidate to be interviewed will be Kevin Warsh, who has previously served as a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. In addition to the Fed chair interviews, Trump has been active in other political appointments. He is advocating for Lindsey Halligan to be nominated as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. However, the Senate's "blue slip" tradition may hinder Halligan's confirmation, as it requires home-state senators to approve judicial nominees. Trump has also been vocal regarding the Federal Reserve's actions, recently reviving criticisms of Fed members ahead of an upcoming interest rate decision. He made unsubstantiated claims that some Federal Reserve governors might have been appointed using an autopen, suggesting a lack of proper oversight in their appointments. Furthermore, Trump's influence faced a setback in Indiana, where his redistricting effort was rejected by the state Senate. Indiana Senate Republicans, alongside Democrats, voted against the GOP-drawn congressional map that Trump had requested, marking a significant rebuke of his political strategy in the state.
