Scientists have used a global Earth system model to examine the impact of extremely intense tropical cyclones on the ocean carbon cycle, revealing effects such as carbon dioxide uptake and phytoplankton blooms, as reported in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. This study specifically analyzed two category-4 hurricanes in the North Atlantic.
