Take-Two has announced that development on the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Borderlands 4 has been paused. This decision was communicated during the company's Q3 2026 earnings presentation. The Switch 2 version of the game was initially scheduled for release on October 3, 2025, following the game's launch on other platforms on September 12, 2025. However, the port was indefinitely delayed on September 23, 2023. Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis stated, "We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU," indicating a shift in focus towards delivering quality post-launch content and ongoing improvements for the game. The developer of Borderlands 4, Gearbox, previously mentioned that the Switch 2 port required "additional development and polish time." They expressed a desire to better align the release of the port with the game's overall quality and performance. Despite the pause in development for Borderlands 4, Take-Two remains committed to collaborating closely with Nintendo. The company is also preparing to release other titles for the Switch 2, including PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26. Take-Two's decision reflects a strategic approach to ensure that the quality of their games meets player expectations. The company has emphasized its excitement about future collaborations with Nintendo and the potential to bring more titles to the platform. The indefinite delay of the Borderlands 4 Switch 2 port highlights the challenges developers face in optimizing games for new hardware while maintaining quality standards.
