Turkey’s economy hit as Syrians return home

Since the end of the war in Syria last year, over half a million of the 3.6 million Syrian refugees in Turkey have returned home. This trend is negatively impacting the Turkish economy, which depends on low-cost labor in sectors like textiles and agriculture. In Gaziantep, a city in the south-east, half of the garment workshops closed last year due to a shortage of workers.
