A new study published in New Phytologist reveals that plants can pause their growth during stress and resume it when conditions improve, aiding their recovery and ability to produce food. Researchers from UBC have identified the genes and pathways involved in this recovery process, specifically in response to environmental stresses such as cold snaps in winter and salt overloads from coastal flooding.
