Ferrari has officially named its first all-electric vehicle the Ferrari Luce, which means "light" in Italian. Previously referred to as the Elettrica, the Luce represents Ferrari's entry into the all-electric market, following its history of hybrid vehicles that began with the LaFerrari in 2013. The company unveiled parts of the Luce's interior design in San Francisco, showcasing a cabin co-designed by Jony Ive and Marc Newson through their creative collective, LoveFrom. The interior design emphasizes physical controls over touchscreens, featuring analogue dials, aluminum switches, and numerous buttons, which reflects a departure from the trend of digital interfaces in modern vehicles. This design choice aims to enhance the tactile experience for drivers, reminiscent of the design ethos seen in Apple products, which were overseen by Ive during his tenure as Apple's chief designer. While the exterior of the Luce has not yet been revealed, the interior images provide insight into the luxurious and functional design that Ferrari aims to deliver. The Luce is expected to be a larger, more family-friendly vehicle compared to typical Ferrari models, indicating a shift in the brand's approach to electric vehicles. The unveiling of the interior marks a significant step in the development of the Luce, as Ferrari continues to build anticipation for its first all-electric supercar.
