Google has launched its new image generation model, Nano Banana 2, which is powered by Gemini 3.1 Flash Image. This model is designed to operate at “lightning-fast speed,” allowing for rapid editing and the quick creation of various iterations from a single prompt. Nano Banana 2 retains the capabilities, world knowledge, and reasoning of its predecessor, Nano Banana Pro, while making these features accessible to a broader audience. The model is now available to free users through the Gemini app and other Google AI platforms. One of the key features of Nano Banana 2 is its ability to pull real-time information and images from web searches, enabling users to create infographics, diagrams, and other visual content. It can also generate text on images, which is useful for marketing materials and greeting cards. Additionally, the model can maintain character resemblance for up to five characters in a single workflow, making it particularly valuable for creating storyboards or visual narratives. Google emphasizes that Nano Banana 2 aims to enhance the speed, affordability, and ease of generating complex images. The update is part of Google's effort to bring high-speed intelligence to visual generation, making advanced AI image tools available to a wider audience. The model is set to become the default in the Gemini app and in AI mode, further integrating its capabilities into Google's ecosystem.
