Former Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan returns with a Western survival shooter

Jeff Kaplan, the former lead director of Overwatch, has returned to the gaming industry after leaving Blizzard in 2021. He is now leading his own studio, Kintsugiyama, and developing a new game titled The Legend of California, an open-world, action-survival shooter set during the gold rush era on an island. The game features elements such as cowboys and prospectors, allowing players to hunt, build mines and stables, craft tools and weapons, develop their homestead, and raid hostile camps. Kaplan noted that while the game aims for authenticity to the time period, it does not prioritize historical accuracy.
