Xiaomi has announced plans to launch electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe by 2027, marking a significant shift from its traditional identity as a smartphone manufacturer. This announcement was made at the IFA 2026 consumer electronics trade show in Berlin, where the company introduced its vision for integrating its vehicles into a smart-home ecosystem known as Human x Car x Home. The initiative reflects Xiaomi's strategy to diversify its product offerings and enhance its presence in the automotive sector. To facilitate its entry into the European market, Xiaomi Auto has signed memoranda of understanding with eight of Germany's largest dealer groups. These agreements represent the company's first retail partnerships on the continent and are intended to establish a foundation for selling its electric vehicles in Germany and potentially other European markets. This move aligns with a broader trend of Chinese automakers expanding into Europe, despite challenges such as existing EU tariffs on China-made electric vehicles and increasing scrutiny regarding foreign automotive competition. Xiaomi's commitment to launching EVs in Europe is part of a larger initiative to leverage its technology expertise in creating vehicles that are not only electric but also integrated into a connected smart-home framework. This approach aims to cater to the growing consumer preference for intelligent and connected transportation solutions, positioning Xiaomi as a competitive player in the evolving automotive landscape.
