GKids has acquired the U.S., Canadian, U.K., and Irish distribution rights to Hirokazu Kore-eda’s live-action film “Look Back.” This project is the first live-action adaptation of the popular manga “Look Back,” created by Tatsuki Fujimoto, who is also known for the series “Chainsaw Man.” Hirokazu Kore-eda, a Palme d'Or-winning director recognized for his work on “Shoplifters,” is both directing and editing the film. The film “Look Back” is a coming-of-age story that focuses on two young women who aspire to become manga artists. The narrative explores their dreams and the challenges they face in pursuing their artistic ambitions. The production of the film took place in Nikaho City, located in northern Japan, highlighting the film's connection to its source material and the cultural backdrop of the story. As GKids takes on the distribution, the film is positioned to reach audiences in North America and parts of Europe, expanding the reach of Kore-eda's adaptation. The acquisition of “Look Back” by GKids signifies the company's commitment to bringing diverse and international films to wider audiences, particularly those that resonate with themes of youth and creativity.
