Light-driven probe enables sensitive detection of epigenetic intermediates

Phys.org2/6/2026

Summary

Researchers from Japan have developed a novel light-sensitive oligonucleotide probe that selectively crosslinks with 5-formylcytosine, an important intermediate in epigenetics. This probe enables the sensitive detection of this intermediate in target DNA and complex biological samples, addressing the challenge of detecting low-abundance epigenetic modifications such as DNA methylation.
