The United States State Department summoned the Malaysian ambassador to Washington, Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob, to discuss Malaysia's stance on Israel. This action was reported by the state news agency Bernama. Malaysia has a longstanding policy of not recognizing Israel and has consistently supported the Palestinian cause. Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan emphasized that this position is not new and has been part of Malaysia's policy for a long time. He stated, "Our immigration policy does not recognise the State of Israel or the Zionist regime." The discussion arose following an incident involving an individual with dual citizenship from the U.S. and Israel who entered Malaysia using his U.S. passport. Upon further checks, it was discovered that he also held Israeli citizenship, leading Malaysian authorities to ask him to leave the country. This incident highlights Malaysia's strict immigration policies regarding Israeli nationals. Additionally, the situation follows Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's announcement that Malaysian authorities will deport any Israeli nationals found within the country. This declaration reinforces Malaysia's firm stance against recognizing Israel and its commitment to its immigration policy regarding individuals with Israeli citizenship.
