Zohran Mamdani was sworn in as New York City's 111th mayor at midnight, making him the first Muslim mayor and the first Democrat with democratic socialist credentials to hold the office. The swearing-in ceremony took place in a disused subway station beneath city hall, conducted by state attorney general Letitia James. Following the ceremony, a public block party was held along Broadway’s “Canyon of Heroes.”
