A Panama-flagged cargo vessel named Ocean Winner sank off the eastern coast of India in the Bay of Bengal. The ship had a total of 24 crew members on board at the time of the incident, which included 20 Chinese nationals, three Myanmar nationals, and one Bangladeshi, as confirmed by the Indian Coast Guard. The Ocean Winner was reportedly transporting iron ore from India to Singapore when communication with the vessel was lost on Saturday, prompting the initiation of a search-and-rescue operation by India's maritime rescue agency. In response to the sinking, the Indian Coast Guard has deployed two vessels from Sri Vijaya Puram, previously known as Port Blair, to assist in the ongoing search efforts. Reports indicate that at least two crew members have been rescued; however, the fate of the remaining 22 crew members remains uncertain. The search operation is actively continuing as the coastguard works to locate and assist those who are still unaccounted for. The incident underscores the risks associated with maritime transport in the region, particularly for vessels engaged in long-distance cargo transport. The response from the Indian Coast Guard highlights the urgency of the situation as they strive to locate the missing crew members and provide assistance. The ongoing search efforts reflect the challenges faced in maritime safety and rescue operations in the Bay of Bengal.
