UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham is scheduled to visit Kyiv on Monday, marking his first international trip since taking office last month. This visit coincides with Ukraine's celebration of its 35th independence anniversary. Burnham's office has indicated that the primary purpose of the trip is to demonstrate strong support for Ukraine as it continues to confront Russia's invasion. During his visit, he will co-chair a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing and is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In addition to his diplomatic engagements, Burnham is anticipated to announce British support aimed at enhancing Ukraine's domestic production capabilities for long-range missiles. This initiative reflects the UK's ongoing commitment to assist Ukraine in its defense efforts amid the ongoing conflict. Discussions during the visit will focus on improving Ukraine's military capabilities, particularly in the area of long-range missile production. Furthermore, the UK government has approved defense firm MBDA to release classified information regarding UK components for the long-range missile SCALP. This approval is intended to facilitate local assembly of the missile in Ukraine, further underscoring the UK's strategic partnership with Ukraine. The visit and associated announcements highlight the UK's role in supporting Ukraine's military needs during this critical period as the conflict continues.
