Apple's current Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, John Ternus, will become the new CEO when Tim Cook steps down in September. Cook expressed in a statement that it has been the greatest privilege of his life to lead Apple, a company he has guided through significant innovations since taking over after co-founder Steve Jobs' death. Under Cook's leadership, Apple launched several key products, including the AirPods, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro, and expanded its services with offerings like Apple TV and Apple Music. Following his departure as CEO, Cook will transition to the role of executive chairman of Apple’s Board of Directors (The Morning After, BBC, AP News). John Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and became Vice President of Hardware Engineering in 2013. He transitioned to a senior executive role in 2021 and has been prominently featured in recent product launches, including the MacBook Neo. His appointment as CEO marks a new era for Apple, as he is recognized as a "product guy" who will face key challenges in leading the company forward (The Morning After, BBC, Reuters). In conjunction with Ternus's promotion, Apple has appointed Johny Srouji as the new Chief Hardware Officer, effective immediately. Srouji will take over the hardware engineering responsibilities previously held by Ternus. This leadership change comes amidst a backdrop of executive shifts within Apple, including the appointment of Sabih Khan as Chief Operating Officer, following the departure of Jeff Williams (The Verge, BBC).
