Zohran Mamdani was sworn in as mayor of New York City shortly after midnight in a private ceremony at an abandoned beaux arts subway station. The ceremony was conducted by New York attorney general Letitia James, with Mamdani's wife, Rama Duwaji, and family members, including his mother, filmmaker Mira Nair, and father, Mahmood Mamdani, a professor at Columbia University, present. Mamdani, 34, is set to participate in a public swearing-in and a block party outside city hall later in the day.
