Paramount is in the early stages of developing two different G.I. Joe movies, with scripts being penned by Danny McBride and Max Landis. According to Deadline, McBride, known for his work on The Righteous Gemstones, is currently in talks to write a treatment for one of the films. Meanwhile, Max Landis, who previously wrote for American Ultra, has already prepared a treatment for his project. Both projects are in early development, and further decisions regarding their progression will be made once the scripts are completed and submitted. Variety reports that these efforts are part of Paramount's strategy to revive the G.I. Joe franchise, which has been dormant for some time. The studio is also exploring various Transformers projects in early stages, indicating a broader interest in revitalizing its action-adventure properties. The return of Landis to the industry is particularly notable, as his career faced significant challenges following allegations during the #MeToo movement. Hollywood Reporter highlights that Landis's involvement marks a significant moment in his career, which had been derailed due to the allegations. Both scripts are being developed independently, and it remains uncertain whether either project will ultimately be greenlit. IndieWire adds that while both treatments are in deep development, there is no guarantee they will reach production.
