Tomb Raider publishers proposed a redesign of Lara Croft's model for her Japanese debut to better appeal to a Japanese audience. Core Design's Japanese publisher suggested changes that would have altered her appearance significantly, akin to styles seen in Final Fantasy VII or Street Fighter. However, the original developers refused the request, and ultimately, only the manuals and guides were modified.
