Memory loss is fuelled by gut microbes in ageing mice

A study published in Nature by Edward Chen finds that a species of gut bacteria that increases in older mice contributes to cognitive decline. Researchers discovered that this bacterium interferes with signaling along sensory nerves connected to the brain. The gut-brain circuit identified in the study is likely conserved in other species.
