The sultan of Pahang in Malaysia has called for the public to approach royal pardons with “calmness of emotion” and not view them as “a political gift.” This statement comes amid controversy regarding a decree that may allow ex-prime minister Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his reduced prison sentence at home. Najib claims the supplementary royal decree would facilitate this, but the Kuala Lumpur High Court has dismissed his request.
