Tesla, Google, and Carrier have launched a new industry coalition called Utilize, aiming to unlock idle grid capacity in the US power grid. The coalition claims that better utilization could save American consumers over $100 billion over the next decade. The coalition also includes Renew Home, Sparkfund, SPAN, and Verrus. According to a Duke University analysis of 22 regional power systems, the US electric grid operates at an average of just 53% of its total capacity.
