Argentina’s Milei seeks to deport foreigners that spread ‘hate’ of country

Argentine President Javier Milei has enacted an emergency decree that bars or expels foreigners who express what he describes as “hate” towards Argentina. This measure is a response to what the government characterizes as "recent displays of hostility towards the Argentine Republic and Argentinians." However, specific examples of such hostility were not provided by the government. The decree is already in effect but requires parliamentary approval to remain law, raising questions about its legal feasibility, as noted by experts. Milei claims that Argentina is the target of a sinister campaign aimed at undermining the country. The decree specifically targets individuals deemed to have “spread or incited hate messages” against Argentina or its people. The president's statement highlights his administration's commitment to protecting the nation's image and addressing perceived threats from abroad. Critics and legal experts have expressed skepticism regarding the legality of the emergency decree, suggesting that it may face challenges in the legislative process. The situation reflects Milei's broader agenda to assert national sovereignty and respond to perceived external criticisms following events such as the World Cup. The implications of this decree could have significant effects on foreign relations and the treatment of expatriates in Argentina.
