Overwatch 2, the sequel to Activision Blizzard’s hero shooter Overwatch, was announced in 2019 and released three years later. It introduced five-on-five matches in PVP and featured new characters, including the franchise's first Black female hero. The developers canceled planned PvE content and unlocked the hero pool, later reinstating features like 6v6 gameplay and loot boxes. As of 2026, Overwatch 2 has reverted to simply being called Overwatch.
