During Tesla’s Q1 2026 earnings call, CEO Elon Musk announced plans for an “AI4.1 or AI4 Plus” upgrade to the self-driving computer, which will double the RAM from 16 gigabytes to 32 gigabytes per chip, resulting in a total system memory of 64 gigabytes. Musk also confirmed that HW3 “simply does not have the capability” for unsupervised FSD. This announcement raises questions for Tesla owners currently driving HW4 cars.
