Physicists create laser tornado in miniature structures using synthetic magnetic field

Phys.org3/27/2026 – 3/28/2026

Summary

Scientists from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw, the Military University of Technology, and the Institut Pascal CNRS at Université Clermont Auvergne have created "optical tornadoes" in miniature structures using a synthetic magnetic field. This discovery may lead to the development of miniature light sources with complex structures, which could simplify and scale photonic devices for applications in optical communication and quantum technologies. The research is published in the journal Science Advances.
