As Israeli strikes continue in southern Lebanon, approximately 454,000 people have been displaced, with many sleeping rough in Beirut. Reports indicate that individuals are finding shelter in cars, on the streets, or on the beach, as emergency shelters, including hundreds of schools, places of worship, and stadiums, are overwhelmed and quickly fill up as soon as they open (PRIMARY SOURCE). The Israeli military has confirmed that its strikes targeted Hezbollah command centers in the Baalbek area of eastern Lebanon's Bekaa Valley. These strikes are among the deadliest reported in recent weeks, resulting in at least 10 fatalities, including a senior Hezbollah official, and wounding 24 others, including three children (ADDITIONAL SOURCES). The attacks have also impacted civilians, with an Israeli strike on Beirut’s seafront killing at least 8 people and injuring dozens more (Al Jazeera). In response to the escalating violence, Hezbollah has stated that it has "no choice" but to defend itself following the deadly Israeli strikes. The group is reportedly increasing internal meetings to discuss its response to the situation, which has violated the ceasefire agreement signed in November 2024 (Middle East Eye). The ongoing conflict has led to significant humanitarian challenges, as the number of displaced individuals continues to rise amid the strikes.
